2022 marked 50 years of providing services and opportunities for West Central Abilities Inc. This was a tremendous accomplishment recognized by our community.

WCA’s purpose from its inception holds true today – to provide meaningful, quality programs, services, and supports, with dignity and respect to encourage independence and provide the highest quality of care.  The objectives include the pursuit of new and innovative methods in promoting the welfare and well-being of People Experiencing Disability.

Into the future we shall go, where inspiration will be gained, and possibilities evolve.

Exploring Opportunities

We recognize that Inspiration comes from all directions, which helps to build our vision for tomorrow. On our journey of changing lives and helping people, we have had the privilege of knowing some of the first families who initially embarked on this venture. These families did not let the multitude of barriers prevent them from achieving their goals. Their efforts and determination have made a significant impact within the disability service sector for today.

Fulfilling and Energizing Possibilities

The key to unlocking an individual’s full potential is being able to provide opportunities for individuals to make choices, nurture and shape their talents, support their abilities, and provide information to make decisions. Every day our team is implementing processes where individuals may discover their values, interests, talents, and gifts. We are here to encourage, support, care for and guide them in choosing the way that they want to live their life.

Progressive Dynamics

We are living in a time where things are quickly evolving around us. We have modern technology, expanding Artificial Intelligence, and medical advancements incorporating technological developments in all areas of healthcare. It is amazing how far things have come.

We are grateful that essential services too are evolving in family supports, accessible services and resources, and dedicated professional development in our field. Yet, at that same time, as we reflect on what has changed, we see the same fundamentals remain: the need for love, purpose, belonging, contribution and having connection with family and friends.

Reconnecting with Peers, Family, and Friends

It is with renewed enthusiasm that we put the pandemic and its restrictions behind us and celebrate the regained liberties of enjoying the company of others, participating in, and attending community events as we did before the infamous COVID-19. A positive gained from the restrictions was that WCA transcended, finding new and creative ways to stay connected, incorporating innovative ways for sharing information, holding meetings and professional development. Today we are more eager and more appreciative to celebrate all the simple joys in life with one another.

New Day Program Facility Progresses

Construction work is getting close to completion at the new Centre. Anticipation is growing amongst all of us for that ‘move in day’, to arrive at our new accessible location on 1st Avenue West.

We wish to extend our appreciation to the Kinsmen Foundation for their generous contribution of $85,204.00 for the accessible elevator lift system that was installed.

We wish to acknowledge the numerous donors we have had over the years in making this new facility a reality for our services to be delivered from for many, many, years to come. From the fundraising efforts and generous donations, a total of $264, 371.00 was raised in the 2022 -2023 year. Special recognition goes to our larger donors in the year: The Town of Kindersley, SARCAN, and the Bews Family.

Overview for SARCAN

SARCAN released that its returns held strong throughout the past year with an 84% return rate. This is one of Canada’s highest return rates and helped bring SARCAN’s historical total of returned containers to over 10 billion. An incredible milestone for SARCAN.
