What Are We Fundraising For?

A New Facility

A new day program and multi-purpose facility is needed. As services have evolved to person centered programs, our facility must also evolve. The agency is moving to a central, accessible location in the heart of the community. As we work together with the Ministry of Social Services to make this dream a reality, we need your support. The total project cost for our new building is estimated to be 2.3 million dollars. We have established a Fundraising Committee and are in the process of planning a number of events and projects.

Current plans for the new facility would offer a multi-use building including a more functional kitchen for teaching and working together, a dedicated Snoozelen space for those who require specific sensory input, a board room for meetings, classes, and more, as well as space for community events in a location which is safe and accessible to everyone. We are excited to create a space where everyone can come together.

We look forward to enhancing our services through the support of the community, corporate sponsorship, forming partnerships and creating volunteer opportunities. The current building is aging, and the location is no longer safe nor suited to the programs WCA operates. We need the support of our community to continue providing valuable, person centered programming to clients in our community.

A Vision of Philanthropy

Have you ever thought about what an interesting and fantastic world we live in, one that connects us together in one way or another?

There are so many different ways that we are linked together, such as knowing the same person, having lived in the same town, to experiencing the same things. Whether we are brought together in good times, spiritual times, or unprecedented times, we also know we need each other in one way or another.

Meaningful services, require everyone’s support. Your support strengthens our work so we can give back to our communities by virtue of enhanced services and programs. On behalf of WCA, we send our utmost gratitude to all the donors who have recognized and given towards the amazing work of WCA. Their contributions have made a significant impact in our world, creating growth and opportunity for individuals to enjoy and participate in the community.

Years ago WCA undertook the monumental task of raising money to build a new facility for programs and services to enhance the lives of persons experiencing disability. To date, we have secured from multiple sources (including the eventual sale of the current building) a total of $2.1 million dollars. How fantastic is that? Fundraising efforts continue, to fully equip the new facility and programs, and for contingency expenses. We expect to need an additional $150K to $200K to fully complete the project.

You can help us through sponsorship, bequests and planned giving, donations, services or gifts-in-kind, or volunteering. Visit our website at www.westcentralabilities.ca for more information.

Thank you for your continued support.

Summer Camp

WCA has developed a Client Trip Fund to assist clients with the cost of summer camp or a different trip that meets their needs.  We have initiated several fundraising projects including Mom’s Pantry, Vesey’s Bulbs, World’s Finest Chocolates, the sale of handmade items, and raffles as well as individual donations to raise funds for this purpose.

Our fund provides up to $280 per year for each client to cover the cost of summer camp or an alternate trip or activity to enrich their life.  Each year we must raise approximately $5000 in order to provide this opportunity for each of the individuals we serve.

Suitable Vehicles

The purchase, maintenance and operating costs of suitable vehicles is another area where fundraising and donations are needed. West Central Abilities receives no funding for the purchase, maintenance, operation, or insurance of our vehicles.

Currently we operate 4 vehicles including a wheelchair bus and three mini vans. We are grateful that we were recently able to purchase 2 new vans for our staff to safely transport our clients in the community.

We still have work to do to make this dream a reality but we wish to acknowledge everyone who has helped so far!
